When a Painting Goes Beyond the Frame<\/b><\/h1>\n

This time, our task was to bring fragments of the work of Polish avant-garde artist Kazimierz \u201cKachu\u201d Ostrowski (1917\u20131999) onto silk, creating a scarf and a twilly for the Gdynia City Museum.<\/span><\/p>\n

Two things immediately stood out in the artist\u2019s work: colour and geometry.<\/span><\/p>\n

For the scarf, the painting \u201cFish\u201d<\/i> (1960\u20131969) was proposed. Even on such a small surface, we managed to capture two fish. To bring the piece together, we finished the whole piece with a hand-rolled red edge, simple, like the frame of a painting.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner row_inner_height_percent=”0″ row_padding=”1″ overlay_alpha=”50″ gutter_size=”3″ shift_y=”0″ z_index=”0″ uncode_shortcode_id=”122243″][vc_column_inner column_width_percent=”90″ gutter_size=”3″ overlay_alpha=”50″ shift_x=”0″ shift_y=”0″ shift_y_down=”0″ z_index=”0″ medium_width=”0″ mobile_width=”0″ width=”1\/1″ uncode_shortcode_id=”101252″][vc_column_text text_lead=”yes” uncode_shortcode_id=”137642″]The second artwork, \u201cAt the Shipyard\u201d<\/i>, was transformed into a twilly, a long silk ribbon. We used different fragments of the painting on each side, so depending on how the twilly is worn, it can take on many distinct styles.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was a really interesting experience to see how works created with a canvas in mind can take on a new life as something you can wear every day.<\/span>

\nThe \u201cKachu Totalny\u201d<\/em> exhibition at the Gdynia City Museum is open until the end of February 2027.
